In 1994, a group of people who had been running several golf tournaments got together and decided to put all their efforts into one event…..The Tommy Usher Log-a-Load Golf Classic.

Tommy Usher passed away in 1989 and at the time of his death, he was running his family’s timber business and the youngest member of the Board of Directors of the Florida Forestry Association. Since “Log-a-Load for Kids” is a national charity of the timber/forest products industry that benefits Children’s Miracle Network, it was fitting to name the event after Tommy.

Ken and Lynetta Usher Griner (Tommy’s sister and brother-in-law), along with representatives of Farm Credit of Florida, Dee Dot Timberlands, N. G. Wade Investments, Inc., and Suwannee Lumber Company have been the main organizers of the annual event……although they rely heavily on other friends, family, and industry partners to make it a success each and every year.

The day begins with a morning round of golf along with coffee and grilled sausage dogs provided by the Farm Credit cooks. Lunch is enjoyed by both morning and afternoon golfers and features the famous Farm Credit beef, pork and/or chicken along with generous sides and an endless supplies of cookies. A few of the donated door prizes are given away at lunchtime. The afternoon round concludes with hamburgers and hot dogs (along with leftovers from lunch that nobody seems to mind) and more door prizes. The final drawing of the day is for the premium set of golf clubs donated every year by Sandy McArthur and N. G. Wade Investment Company.

Since 1994, we have raised over $980,000.00 dollars for the kids at UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital and Children’s Miracle Network.
